After 42 build tests, months of relentless work, and having zero access to MacBooks or iPhones, BeambePrep is officially approved and live on the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad!
The Hardware Paradox: Built With Zero Apple Devices
Building an iOS app when you do not own a MacBook or an iPhone sounded completely impossible! Apple expects developers to drop 300,000+ PKR on luxury hardware just to compile and test code. For someone studying for MDCAT, spending 3 lakh rupees on luxury hardware was an absolute impossibility. Most people would have surrendered, waited for a sponsor, or limited the platform strictly to web and Android.
I refused to let a hardware barrier lock iPhone and iPad students out of active recall. Instead of giving up, I engineered automated remote compilation pipelines and headless build toolchains directly from my workstation. If I could not afford a physical MacBook, I would turn cloud architecture into my personal compiling engine.
And although some people went around claiming that they "gifted" me MacBooks and iPhones, let me set the record completely straight: I received zero devices, zero laptops, zero hardware gifts, and zero handouts from anyone!
I did it all on my own setup through pure trial, error, and student ingenuity! It took 42 grueling build tests over months of late-night coding while preparing for MDCAT. I paid Apple's mandatory developer license fee entirely out of my own pocket while managing my own study schedule. This achievement proves that student obsession beats commercial gatekeeping every single time.
The 42-Build Crucible
Compiling for iOS without physical hardware is the software engineering equivalent of docking a spacecraft blind, relying entirely on telemetry readouts. When a UI glitch happens on iOS, you cannot simply tap your phone screen to see why. You read raw crash logs, compute viewport bounding boxes mathematically, adjust stylesheets, and dispatch another cloud compilation build.
Taming Apple developer identity certificates, cryptographic distribution profiles, push notification capabilities, and automated archive packaging.
Fine-tuning native touch gestures, bottom navigation safe-area insets, notch geometry, offline SQLite cache syncing, and fluid flashcard swipes.
Production hardening, dark-mode styling fidelity, offline flashcard synchronization, App Store Connect compliance, and official approval!
The Flight Testers: Zahra Noor & Hasnain Ali
Writing code without an iPhone in hand meant I needed reliable eyes and ears in orbit. That is where Zahra Noor and Hasnain Ali stepped up to test candidate builds on real Apple hardware!
Every time I compiled a candidate release build, they installed it directly onto their personal iPhones. Together, they helped debug and validate push notifications, sign-up and login workflows, user flow, flashcards, questions, and overall UI/UX across multiple iOS releases.
